Basement Bathrooms – Before You Start

If you have decided to remodel your basement and make it a functional place for you and your family to enjoy, that’s wonderful.
Your biggest challenge may be deciding what you will do with it, but running a close second would be dealing with basement bathrooms.
There are a few steps that you want to take in order to make sure that you do everything correctly.
You wouldn’t want to be halfway done and realize that you’ve missed a step! Here are some tips to help you make sure that your basement will truly rock!
Pipes –
You can’t do without these little guys when it comes to basement bathrooms. So, you want the good news or the bad news first? Okay, the good news; usually pipes run through the basement, so making sure that you are hooked up shouldn’t be difficult.
The bad news; you may have to call a plumber in order to make sure you have the right kind of pipes, and to see if anything needs to be updated. If you have no knowledge of plumbing, definitely call the plumber!
Moisture –
It is truly important to make sure that you have taken care of any moisture problems. Since basements are normally moist, you may need to put down a sealer so that it will block the moisture.
If there are any leaks from pipes, basement windows, or anything else, you will need to fix these as well. If you don’t do this, you’re going to be one mad duck! It can result in mold, mildew and rotting.
Insulation –
It’s really important to make sure that your basement is insulated well. Basement bathrooms can be a real pain in the neck without the proper insulation. Let’s just say that the toilets can get really cold!
There are other problems as well, and if you have important things down there, they can even get damaged without the proper insulation.
So, now that you’ve covered the basic but important steps to making sure your basement is protected and hooked up correctly, you’re ready to make an awesome basement that you and your family will love.
