Basement Ideas for Small Spaces

If you are finishing a basement, or have just done so, there are some special things you should consider, especially if your newly renovated space is small.
Hopefully, these basement ideas give you some innovative ways to make your small space looked a little less cramped.
Color
One of the most important basement ideas to think about is color. You shouldn’t be afraid to paint a small room a darker color.
Darker colors blur architectural lines which help the room feel larger. However, you should choose similar palettes for the ceiling and trim, so the eye isn’t distracted.
Furniture
When choosing furniture, it is best to refrain from larger, bolder patterns. If you like bold patterns save them for accessories and smaller items around the space, like accent pillows or an area rug.
You should also keep in mind the size of your space when purchasing furniture. Too large of items will make your basement feel really cramped.
The Mirror Effect
One important basement idea for a small space is to contemplate putting up mirrors. Mirrors have a special effect of making a room feel larger than it really is.
If you plan on using mirrors, however, you will want to make sure that the mirrors are reflecting something interesting or pleasing to look at.
Storable Furniture
One way to minimize furniture clutter, and to maximize space, is to use stacking or folding furniture. Nesting tables are a great way to cut out clutter, yet if needed, you could use all of the tables for whatever purpose.
Folding chairs now come in stylish and comfortable varieties. When storing folding chairs, you can put them just about anywhere: under a sofa, in a closet, behind a folding screen, etc.
Think Vertical
Another great basement idea is to use as much wall space as you can with tall bookcases. You can use the bookcases as storage units with trendy baskets or boxes, or just to store your favorite books.
