Basement Plumbing – Getting Started

When you are finishing a basement, you’re likely to run into plumbing needs that must be addressed. This is especially true if you are adding an extra bathroom to your basement.
Some people would say, “forget it,” and hire a plumber. However, if you want to try and tackle this project on your own, here are some tips that might help you out.
Check the Requirements –
Before you begin working on your basement plumbing, you should check to see if there are any specific requirements. For example, some states require you to have copper piping for hot or cold water lines.
You wouldn’t want to get the work nearly done and then find out that you have used the wrong kind of pipe. If you decide to hire someone, they should know all of the specific requirements as far as pipe and materials.
Make sure you have what you need –
Nothing is more frustrating than realizing that you don’t have everything you need for the job. Other than the pipes you will need for replacement, you may need other things too.
Some of those may include glue, something to cut the pipe with, a measuring tape, and many more. Make a list of the things that you will need in order to get the job completely finished.
This way, you can pick up everything that you need while you’re out. It will save you time and keep you from getting too frustrated with the plumbing job.
You also will want to make sure that the basement plumbing job is going to work with what you have planned for the basement.
For example, if you have pipes that run the length of the basement ceiling, is this going to work with your plans for a home movie theater down there, or a work out room, or whatever it is you plan on putting down there?
You want to make sure you leave enough head room and do the job according to the end result that you desire. This will help save you money in the long run. By following the tips above, you will have your basement done in no time.
