Basement Waterproofing – How to Do it Right

There are very few things worse than walking down into your basement and finding it flooded with water. How can you stop this from happening? By taking the time to do some high quality basement waterproofing.

Remember, even basement waterproofing isn’t fool proof if you have cracks in your walls or have large spaces in between your wall blocks.

If you do have any cracks in your walls make sure to use quick-dry cement to patch them up before you begin.

Clean your walls off before you get started. You don’t want loose dirt or debris because they will keep the seal from sticking to the wall. You may even want to sandblast them to leave yourself with a nice, smooth, clean surface.

Make sure you follow the manufacturer’s directions to the letter. You do not want to undercoat your basement walls or it will not work.

Make sure you get the basement waterproofing coat into all the pores and indentions in your basement walls. You want every square inch covered completely.

When buying your supplies keep in mind that waterproofing products are not the same as water-repellent products.

Waterproofing your basement may be a bit of work, but it will save you the future headaches of a flooded basement.
